Agencies sound like a good deal because they offer so much, all wrapped up in a single package. But unfortunately, most businesses that use them get taken to the bank.
Why? Because agencies sell their services under a business name, but it’s really different freelancers all over the world doing all the work. And agencies will always go with the cheapest freelancers, so they themselves can make the biggest profit.
For the business owner hiring an agency to have a website built, this means the people building your website actually have the lowest skill levels in web design…yet you are paying a premium price (where again, most of the money is going in the pocket of the agency).
So the question is, if you were paying $2,500 to have a website made, would you want to pay that to a top-level professional to design your site or to an agency, where the lowest-level web designers would be building your site?
Also look out for the agency hosting trap. This is where you pay the agency a monthly fee and they provide all of your web hosting. Don’t do it. If the agency doesn’t pay their web hosting bill, your site will disappear and there will be nothing you can do about it. Always pay for web hosting directly to a web hosting company yourself.
